THE OTHER AROMA, 2010

December 20, 2010 – January 16, 2011

Opening – December 20, 2010 (Monday), 6:00 P.M.
Sofia, 1 “Knyaz Alexander I” Square

On December 20, 2010 (Monday) at 6:00 p.m., the National Art Gallery presents an “exhibition” by Dr. Gatev – “The Other Scent”.

In the so-called “Red Cross” is an exposed machine, provoking the olfactory analyst. Human analysts are trainable, and the author reminds us of this through 4 technology rules. Every visitor will have the opportunity to get into the provocative situation by operating the machine himself.

Yet the real provocation will be to the visual analyst, not the olfactory. “The Other Scent” is an alternative to modern development.

“If you want to be Ambroise Vollard, you have to use “The Other Scent”.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dr. Gatev is an emblematic phenomenon of the Bulgarian art scene from the period of active transformations in the 90s. He is a collector of the so-called unconventional forms in Bulgarian art and their radical apologist since their earliest appearance in the late 1980s. Dr. Gatev developed his collecting bias in the role of a conceptual artist and thus in a short time managed to turn his everyday professional image into a pseudonym and a sign of one of the most dynamic periods in the history of contemporary Bulgarian art. But despite his significant contribution to updating and changing the traditional model in our art, today his works and his unusual manifestations are known mostly to the specialist-researchers of this decade.

During the second half of the 1990s, Dr. Gatev attracted the interest of famous international curators and participated in the European Biennial “Manifesta 2” in Luxembourg in 1998, in the Biennial in Santa Fe in 1999, in the exhibition “DOCUMENTA USA” in Detroit in 2001 and others.

The exhibition is realized jointly with Varhove gallery and with the support of CIBANK.
